4 Tried and Tested Ways to Relax and Unwind

A few years ago, when I was living in Sydney, I was working part time and studying full time and commuting to and from work and uni for up to two and a half hours a day.

And that was on a good day!

When I arrived home, I was so tired but would still have a million and one thoughts racing through my mind, and I struggled to relax.

Most nights I would collapse, exhausted into bed with no real down time. It was definitely not good for my well being!

These days I’m incredibly fortunate enough to work from home, so no commute and I now live in Brisbane, which is so much more slower paced than Sydney!

I’m still busy, but now I find it easier to slow down relax and unwind at the end of each day.

I have a few tried and tested ways I like to use to help me clear my mind and relax.

1. Go for a walk 

I have a very large puppy that needs to get out of the house each day, which usually ensures I get out of the house daily. Sure, there are days when I just can’t be assed walking her, but when I do, I feel refreshed and re-energised. Ready to tackle dinner, chores or a little more work.

2. Play music

My days are filled with music, from the time I wake up, all through the day and only stops when I’m ready to have some tv time or read. Playing music in the evening while I cook dinner or clean the kitchen helps me relax and collect my thoughts and leave the busy day behind. Do a little dance as well, it helps!

3. Pour some tea (or wine!)

I’m not a big drinker and usually opt for tea during the week but a glass of wine will do very well in this situation too! If you like your tea, you know there’s something beautifully calming about the ritual of making a cup of tea. I love mine sweet with a dash of almond milk or if I’m in the mood for herbal tea I like this Be Serene tea made with chamomile.

4. Soak in a bath

There is nothing quite like the feeling of slipping into a hot bath and having the days tension literally leave your body as you sink into the water. Add a lush smelling natural bath soak and It’s pure bliss!
