Taking A Bold Stance For Sustainable Fashion With eleven44

Emily Uebergang

The clock struck 11:44.

Noticing this time over and over, the universe was sending Linda Morkos a sign. From this flicker of divine intervention the brand emerged; eleven44.

As someone who draws inspiration from nature for her sustainable fashion clothing line, Linda is constantly reminded to slow down, tune in and listen.

When asked about the origin of her brand’s unique name, Linda reveals she took heed of her own advice.

“I was struggling to come up with something, so I put it out to the universe for a clear sign. A vivid answer came back. I noticed the clock over and over again at 11:44 and it was so obvious to me that this was to be the name of the brand.”

This inspiration filters through to her designs.

Blending the repetitive patterns of geometry with the mysticism of numerology and nature, eleven44 is a brand worth taking notice of. You won’t be able to help but to.

Linda goes on to explain, “In numerology, 11 is a flash of insight, an idea, a revelation. Forty four (which reduces to 8) has to do with manifesting an idea by making it into a physical form. For me, it was the perfect umbrella for everything that I wanted to create.”

Her edgy geometric eco textiles reflect the timeless nature and versatility of a true sustainable brand. Durability and longevity are key.

“I want to make things that become your instant favourites because they are of high quality, made with eco materials, fit different body types and are super comfortable.”

Early Beginnings

Since a young age, Linda has been dabbling with the art of design. From repurposed wool sweaters to piecing together party costumes from discarded, second-hand clothing. She’s maintained a conscious attitude along her journey. At the heart of her brand is sourcing eco friendly materials such as organic cotton, bamboo, modal and low impact resistance dyes.

Standing Out From The Crowd

Linda’s designs speak to a generation of conscious women looking for pieces she’s coined as ‘life wear,’ without compromising style or their ethical stance on social issues surrounding the fashion industry.

If you’re someone who wants to be able to roll off the couch after binge-watching ‘Orange is the New Black,’ and take to the streets looking like you’re primed for public appearance without the effort of having to get changed, then eleven44 is the answer to your prayer. Because you’ll look more than just ok.

Her pieces accentuate the female form, uniting sexiness and comfort in one sweet-as bodysuit.

With eleven44 you aren’t just limited to the classic hoodies, leggings, tanks, bodysuits and low crotch pants.
Some of the more unique pieces involve you slipping into a sensual catsuit, a racy bralette, sleek kaftan, dripping in statement jewellery or sporting some cheeky patterns that will undoubtedly steal the attention of fellow street-goers.

Digging Deeper For Sustainable Fashion

But beneath the fabric lies a deeper message at the core of the eleven44 brand.

Fast fashion is becoming a thing of the past. We are entering a new age of sustainable fashion that encourages the consumer to think more about the integral choice they have in supporting ethical brands like eleven44.

One of the brand’s core beliefs is to support the eco textile movement. This involves stepping away from conventional cotton farmed with genetically modified seeds and heavy toxic pesticides.

In a recent study tracing the supply chain of over 400 brands, only 9% can fully trace their suppliers of raw materials. This is blatantly not good enough for an industry that turns over $3,180 billion a year.

Despite a slow shift occurring within the industry, for designers and consumers alike, eleven44 remains one of a small cohort of socially and environmentally conscious brands.

But with great change comes great responsibility.

Linda explains, “One of the biggest challenges in espousing ethical values is the increased scrutiny.”

Your bottom line isn’t just about the money. You have elevated yourself to a higher set of standards. But Linda sees this as an opportunity. An opportunity to do better. To reach higher and further.

“For me, using organic cotton is just a bare minimum. We do fair trade with our suppliers, but I always want to be doing more, giving back to the community – in my locality but also in a wider sense.”

This collection is made to make an impact. Both for you, and the local community of workers eleven44 is supporting.

A Bright Future

Through patience, perseverance and allowing the organic flow of growth, Linda has seen major shifts in her business over the past year. Launching the new website has provided great momentum for the brand. A casual browse through the carousel of beautiful pieces in her online shop really instills this message of comfort, timelessness and integrity eleven44 is known for.

She wants to encourage other designers to make positive changes by starting from the ground up.

Linda emphasizes, “Know the source of your materials and grow slowly. The world needs more people who care, and are willing to make the effort to make changes in their daily habits that will add up to bigger changes for the planet.“

It doesn’t take one long to realise — eleven44 is bold and beautiful, in both design and ethics.
