The Eco-friendly Skincare Brand Nurturing Your Home, Body and Soul

Brought to you by Elan Essentials

When you look into the mirror each morning, what do you see?

One company encouraging you to dig deeper and appreciate your natural beauty in its raw and unadulterated form is Élan Essentials. What they emphasise is care, kindness and compassion; not only by what goes into their products but also, how they make you feel.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder is an age old saying with more cultural significance than ever.

In a world saturated with unrealistic beauty standards and products being pushed on us through endless advertisements and commercials, we are led to believe that we are the problem. That somehow, by not fitting into this ideal, you aren’t good enough. You need fixing. By masking your natural appearance, you can become more beautiful. More acceptable.

But to whose standards and to what cost?

What this age old saying eludes to is that beauty is subjective. So why not embrace and nurture what you have?

This in essence, is what Élan Essentials is trying to do.

“To leave a positive impact on this world, you must consciously be the change you seek and live a lifestyle the planet will thank you for."

The Power of Élan

Élan is a word of French origin synonymous with enthusiasm, spirit and vitality. It’s the perfect word to capture the fiery spirit behind the Élan Essentials brand seeking to bring conscious living into your every day rituals. They are closing the loop on your conscious lifestyle by bringing together an ecolux experience through their range of eco-friendly skincare products and candles to nurture your home, body and soul.

Founded by Brisbane locals, Anna and Jarrath, their plant-based products are Australian made, vegan and cruelty-free.

Each soy candle is hand-poured and free from harmful toxins and chemicals; scented using only natural essential oils and fragrances.

Likewise, their skincare range is focused on natural ingredients which boost cell rejuvenation and hydration, leaving you with a healthy, natural glow.

Since their launch, it’s been a glorious ride of ups and downs supported by their intensely passionate network.

When asked about the inspiration behind the brand name ‘Élan,’ Anna explained,

“I loved it because I could see myself in these words and these words were what I saw our business becoming and so it stuck.  Your skincare should be energizing, it should look sophisticated and stylish and it should get you passionate about conscious living.”

To them, it’s about supporting your skin, and the environment, by nurturing your natural beauty and soul.

Not by covering it up.

Born Into Beauty

Anna reflects on her childhood years to explain where this passion for beauty products started.

“Throughout my early teens (and even to this day), I would be in the kitchen or raiding Mum’s bathroom cupboards, putting some concoction (as my mother would call it) together to cure a breakout or soothe my dry elbows or even tame my frizzy curls. I would get my younger sisters in on the beauty routine too and the three of us would be walking around the house with one of my concoctions on our faces or in our hair.”

It was on the heels of a more recent deep conversation with a friend that shifted Anna’s perspective and encouraged her to seriously consider the journey that has unfolded into Élan Essentials.

“Becoming more ethically-minded, checking the labels, researching ingredients and discovering where products are made, ignited this spark to create something of our own.”

“We really do only have one skin and it is so important to nourish it with the right kind of products. "

The Ugly Side To Beauty

This multi-billion dollar beauty industry, as we know it, has a rather dark side.

Picture this.

You wake up in the morning and head straight to the bathroom. A quick splash of water on your face, followed by your morning routine of facial cleansing to wash away all the impurities. You lather on some moisturiser and go about applying your makeup. A quick spray of some deodorant or perfume and you’re finally ready to face the day.

It’s not even breakfast and chances are, you’ve already exposed your body to hundreds of chemicals.

Based on the average woman using 9 – 15 beauty care products per day, a recent study concluded she is exposed to over 500 chemicals.

Many of these synthetic chemicals are potential endocrine disruptors, carcinogens and neurotoxins (source).

From the lotions, soaps, perfumes, makeup, moisturisers, body wash and shampoos we use as part of our daily beauty regimes, we are potentially exposing our body to far more harmful ingredients and chemicals than good.

Anna elaborates, “We really do only have one skin and it is so important to nourish it with the right kind of products. Since starting our journey in becoming more conscious about what we put on our body and in our home we have been amazed with what we can learn by simply reading the label in a bit more detail.”

Staying Grounded

Despite what you may think, for Anna, her days don’t start with meditations by soy-scented candlelight. She admits the work can be overwhelming while juggling a fulltime job. But she acknowledges the importance of her own rituals which help to her grounded.

“I have my morning and night skincare rituals that are routine and we exercise daily. Being a small business you can sometimes get caught up in expectations. I keep grounded by always referring to my WHY. This really helps to focus on our future goals. We are big on promoting each other from within. Our lives are crazy and sometimes time poor but we still make time for date nights, and spend as much spare time we have outdoors with our boxer pups Zeus and Arrow, who keep us very entertained.”

As a brand, they do what they can to bring these conscious values into their business operations.

“We have recently started to use the courier service called Sendle, who also positively contribute to our environment by offsetting their carbon footprint by collaborating with Climate Friendly. Small steps can make big differences.”

Other initiatives they’ve employed include teaming up with Greenfleet which plants a tree across Australia and New Zealand for every 5th online purchase.

True to the Élan way, they believe, “To leave a positive impact on this world, you must consciously be the change you seek and live a lifestyle the planet will thank you for.”
