The Story
Jute baskets. Wall hangings. All handwoven, all heart.
Founded in Byron Bay, The Dharma Door has spent the last 20 years working directly with Fair Trade artisan groups in rural Bangladesh — mostly women, many in remote communities — to create long-term, meaningful employment through traditional craft.
Best known for their oversized jute baskets (sturdy enough for laundry, beautiful enough for the living room), they also make wall hangings, tableware, and storage pieces, all handmade from natural fibres using age-old techniques.
It’s a business built on relationships, not factories. Every piece supports fair wages, safe working conditions, and the preservation of skills passed down through generations.
Why we love them: Long-term Fair Trade partnerships, beautiful craftsmanship, and homewares built to last.
