It’s been a while since I’ve shared a stay with you. Travel has for good reason been off the cards so we’ve stayed at home since our last trip in February.
With restrictions easing here in Queensland and local travel encouraged we decided to have a little weekend getaway close to home. I found a dog-friendly Airbnb only 30 minutes from the Gold Coast which was the perfect country escape. Close to home and the beach yet you feel like you’re miles from anyone. It was bliss.
Hillview Dairy is one of those places you immediately fall for. It’s unpretentious, it’s cozy and gorgeous and welcoming all in one.
Hillview Dairy
Hillview Dairy was, as its name suggests, a dairy originally built-in 1905. The owner Simone has done a wonderful job transforming the former shell into a warm inviting space using recycled elements and antiques giving this home a lived-in feel.
“Nestled on top of a small ridgeline, Hillview Dairy, 1887 overlooks the stunning Mt Tallebudgera, Currumbin Creek and Valley landscape.”
We arrived with the afternoon sun streaming through the living room, a bottle of Shiraz and a lovely note from Simone welcoming us to her home. I was also very excited to find a jar of marshmallows ready for toasting over the outdoor firepit.
Hillview is full of those small details to make you feel immediately at home. Stacks of books with titles you can happily immerse yourself in. Handcrafted pottery lining the shelves, which we gladly used for our cheese platter on the second night. Rugs, throws and cushions on every available space give it that real lived-in feel.
Country Life Weekend
We quickly settled in, lit the fire, which had thoughtfully been prepped with kindling and plenty of firewood, and let Charlie explore.
Hillview is pup-friendly, the main house has gates all around the deck leaving them plenty of room to wander around. The lower courtyard fence is large enough for even a giant like Charlie to walk through, she did wander off to inspect the cows on the neighbouring property so keep an eye on your furry friend if you let them out.
We spent the first night relaxing on the couch with home made pizzas. The kitchen is fully equipped, and you are out of Ubereats range, so make sure to pack your own supplies. The TV is connected to Netflix so you can curl up with a movie by the fire.
Visitors
We slept like logs and woke to the gentle sound of Kookaburras cackling in the distance and the smell of fireplaces burning in the valley.
The dairy has two bedrooms so on the second night we had our friends join us and we spent a wonderful evening unplugged with some good wine, cheese and lots of belly laughs. The night was cool but the outdoor firepit provided plenty of warmth while we toasted those marshmallows.
The bathroom of my dreams
The bathroom was probably my favourite part. With light streaming in from the ceiling and double doors that open out onto the deck, you feel like your out in nature.
Space to relax
With the two bedrooms, lounge room, courtyard and an expansive deck, there is plenty of room and places to find your own little nook to sit down and relax. The deck has a swing which I spent a lot of time on, sun loungers and a newly built plunge pool. The inside is also equipped with air-con making this a great place for a summer getaway as well.
We loved our stay and will definitely be visiting again. Keep scrolling for the rest of the pics of this magical place.
