Theo the Label is an Australian fashion label focused on ethical production, sustainability, and quality basics you’ll wear forever.
All Theo garments are designed in Melbourne by RMIT fashion graduate Esther Kirwan with longevity and quality in mind, striking a balance between contemporary pieces that are relevant today and transcending pieces that will be well-loved in years to come.
Founded with the purpose of creating social impact, Theo garments are manufactured from start to finish by artisans in developing communities, far from the traditional production lines that the fast-fashion industry seems to demand. Our makers are highly skilled and negotiate their own working terms and conditions, enabling them to invest in their own future.
Theo places a high value on maintaining healthy and respectful relationships with makers and takes it one step further by encouraging customers to virtually ‘meet the maker’ of each garment with information, videos and images online.
Most recently, selected styles have been produced locally in Theo’s Melbourne studio using deadstock fabrications sourced from the neighbouring suburbs of Brunswick and Fitzroy, exploring what local production could look like on a larger scale. In addition to slow production methods, high priority is placed on sourcing local and environmentally-conscious raw materials such as GOTS certified cotton, Lenzing Tencel, plant-based dyes and bamboo.
Each garment tells a story to share with everyday shoppers, helping to educate and advocate for more sustainable fashion choices in the future.
