Bruce Apparel – Ethical & Sustainable Activewear For Men That Doesn’t Compromise on Style

Kira Simpson

This week was Dave’s turn to jump in front of the camera for our partnership with men’s ethical and sustainable active apparel and outdoor brand Bruce Apparel.

Ethical fashion for men is notoriously hard to find in Australia, especially workout gear so it’s always exciting to come across new brands.

Dave works out almost every day so his activewear needs to be comfortable, functional and durable as well. He’s only had this shorts and tee combo for a few weeks, but so far they’re ticking all the boxes.

The Brand

Bruce Apparel prides itself on making functional activewear for men who love to be active and want to look good. The brand was created to fill a void in the men’s active lifestyle market. They found many women’s active brands were sustainable but not men’s – which led to the creation of Bruce Apparel.

“Designed for men who like to work out. Who loves the outdoors. Who like to look good in apparel that is comfortable, is ecologically friendly, and simply looks stylish and masculine.”

The clothes

The shirts are made from a mix of recycled polyester and Tencel. The polyester is derived from recycled PET water bottles and uses 53% less energy than traditional polyester. Tencel is a sustainable fabric regenerated from wood cellulose. The shorts are also made from recycled polyester. Each pair using up to eight recycled water bottles to make.

They’re designed for performance, first trialled on athletes and dedicated gym goers to test how the clothing fared under extreme training conditions. One athlete trained in his gear for three days straight without washing it to see the results. He was very impressed with the “no stink” factor and how well it performed in the breathability department.

The Review

Laird Tee in Charcoal

“The shirt is soft, really comfortable and fits firmly without feeling tight. It also breathes really well. I’ve worn it for several workouts now and found that even when I’m sweating, the shirt doesn’t feel wet. An hour after the workout I don’t smell. I normally wear cotton trekking tees to workout, so I’m really impressed with the performance”

Doull 6″ Shorts in Black

“The shorts have a lot of stretch which is my favourite thing about them. They’re not restrictive so great for cardio and weights. They’re definitely my new favourite pair.”
