Ethical Fashion For Autumn + an Off-grid Eco Stay in the Byron Hinterland

Kira Simpson

Most of my travel in recent years has been to overseas destinations, but to reduce my flying, lately, I’ve been opting for adventures a little closer to home.

I’m fortunate enough to live in one the most beautiful places in the world (in my humble opinion!) so I’ve been making an effort to get out an explore more local places.

Earlier this month Dave, Charlie, and I packed up the car for a weekend getaway a few hours south of the Gold Coast for a little R&R at an off-grid cottage we found on Airbnb.

Byron Bay is often synonymous with the quintessential Australian beach holiday but venture a little further inland and you’ll discover the quiet magic that is the hinterland. Rolling green hills, charming historic towns, and restaurants with some of the best locally grown, seasonal produce the region has to offer.

We stayed at Paddock Hall,  a cozy, bohemian cottage complete with a fireplace, claw-foot bathtub on the verandah, and a resident goat. The self-contained cottage is located on the same property as the main house, where the hosts live but completely private. The cottage is made from sustainably sourced timber and upcycled pieces, furnished with antiques, and runs off-grid.

Paddock Hall is the perfect place to rest and reconnect with nature. But be warned, they book out fast!

Autumn Style

Putting together these Autumn fashion looks was a great reminder that you don’t always need to buy new. I’m wearing a mix of ethical fashion brands, rented fashion, and preloved pieces throughout.
