In a bid to reduce its plastic waste, Lego is releasing a new range made from sugarcane and other botanical materials.
Lego have partnered with WWF to create the sustainably sourced ‘bio-plastic’ bricks and joined the Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance, an initiative of WWF.
This comes as part of their commitment to use sustainable materials in core products and packaging by 2030.

The new Lego bricks are made from polyethylene, a soft, durable and flexible plastic that can now be made with ethanol extracted from sugar cane material. The bioplastic can be recycled many times, although it is not likely to be 100% biodegradable.
The plant shaped pieces make up only a small percentage of the Lego’s current range but they do plan to replace the entire collection with bioplastics by 2030.
