We live in a fast paced world where self care often takes a back seat. But it shouldn’t.
The best thing you can do for yourself and your loved ones is to occasionally slow down, be mindful, in the present and take some time for you.
“An empty lantern shines no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.”
Keeping in mind that we all lead busy lives, here are some wellness tricks you can slot into your daily routine without too much effort.
Say goodbye to technology, sometimes
Most of us will wake up and reach for the mobile phone, making our very first act of every day looking at social media or emails. Similarly, at night we often go to bed aiming to read a book but instead watch Netflix or scroll through endless photos on Instagram. It’s a modern day addiction that needs management. At the top and tail end of each day, try and go without it for a little bit and get some control back.
Attempt to eat mindfully
Limit your treats to only a few times a week and nourish your body with fresh, colourful food for optimum nutrition. Planing meals a little in advance can help take the stress out of trying to decided what to cook each day.
Balance your workouts
Mix up your workouts with walks, yoga, light resistance training anything that makes you feel good. If you can only squeeze in half an hour, don’t beat yourself up about it. The most important thing for results is how invigorated and inspired you feel during and after the workout.
Incorporate more rest
There is a kind of magic that comes when you surrender to tiredness and allow yourself a nap. The Spanish have been onto siestas for a long time now; maybe it’s something the rest of the overworked world needs to emulate. If you don’t feel like napping, put your legs up the wall for a few minutes for a stretch or lie on the floor with a pillow under your knees and head and just breathe deeply for a while.
