How You Can Support Refugees With The Social Outfit’s “Wear The Change” Campaign

Kira Simpson

This week marks World Refugee Week and Australian ethical fashion label The Social Outfit is setting out to make a difference.

The Wear The Change campaign raises funds for The Social Outfit’s non-profit community programs supporting women from refugee and new migrant backgrounds with training and employment pathways in the fashion industry.

Social Outfit Wear The Change 2021

Since 2014 The Social Outfit has trained and employed over 400 people through their specialist programs, clothing production, retail, design and marketing, fashion shows, and community events.

“We believe in an Australia where refugees and new migrants are warmly welcomed and settle well, celebrating our diversity and collective skills and strengths. We believe that tapping into the creativity of refugee communities leads to empowerment and social inclusion.”

How to get involved and support Wear the Change this week

1 garment, 5 ways over 5 days

  • Select one fabulous, ethical and sustainable garment from your wardrobe. Wear it every day from June 21 – 25, styled in five different ways over the five days.
  • Set up your fundraising profile here. Every dollar you raise goes towards The Social Outfit’s non-profit community programs
  • Post your outfits on social media using the campaign hashtag #WearTheChange2021. We’ll be featuring our favourite styles on our socials so make sure you tag @thesocialoutfit. Not an essential step but a great way to share your fabulous style and work!

If you’re not up for styling yourself, support someone who is!

The beautiful Natalie Shehata is a sustainable fashion educator the retail trainer for The Social Outfit and someone whose style I adore. You can follow her week of outfits here and donate to her fundraising page here. Nat is also hosting an eco styling webinar on Thursday the 17th – you can register here.
