Australian ethical fashion label, Carlie Ballard, is offering a new way to shop allowing you to access past seasons fabrics and create your very own customised piece.
Carlie is known for her iconic naturally dyed Ikat print fabrics, hand-loomed by master artisans in Southern India. Her label, trans-seasonal and travel inspired, celebrates traditional crafting techniques through modern fabrics.
A pioneer in Australia for fair labour practices, Carlie wants to use her label to start thoughtful conversations about how we consume fashion.
Overproduction in the fashion industry is a serious issue, from using more resources and increased environmental impact to excess items being sent to landfill or burned.
Bespoke is a project that allows minimal waste and maximum personalisation
Have a favourite past season Carlie Ballard piece you love? Now she’s opening up her entire back catalogue of designs so you can create your very Bespoke piece, in the fabric you love, made to order just for you. It’s slow and sustainable fashion at its best.
So why bespoke?
When you make to order, you eliminate the need for excess stock.
“We order fabric in advance to ensure we meet the timelines of production. Handloom fabric takes 2-3 months to make depending on the design, so we need to often take a guess at which fabrics are going to be strong sellers. This often means we have left over fabric at the end of the season. Sometimes 5m, sometimes 50m! It’s our way ofeducing wastage in the fashion industry and offering a personalised service.”
The best part about Bespoke is that you won’t pay any more for the service. Just find the piece you love and have a chat to Carlie about the fabric you’d like it made in.

I am wearing the Escape shorts in Turmeric and the Kick Twist Jumpsuit in Blue – both fabrics are available but you can customise your own!
Both pieces were gifted.
