Meet The Clean Collective – the site helping you live a zero waste and eco-friendly life
Kira Simpson
June 2014. I was sitting in an environmental science lecture at uni listening to the lecturer describe all the toxic chemicals washed down the sink from our everyday household cleaning products.
I remember being horrified and thinking I really need to do something.
That same week I proceeded to throw out every single cleaning product in our house (much to Dave’s annoyance) and ordered natural, organic and eco-friendly replacements.
The zero waste advocate in me these days would have just used everything up and replaced as needed, but it was what I knew at the time and I felt like I was doing something positive for the planet.
This was the very start of my sustainable living journey. It feels like a lifetime ago now and these days, Dave’s almost more eco-conscious than I am!
"Our aim is to big up the kick-ass solutions and the incredible power that each of us has to make positive change in this world."
Back then I knew so little, but almost four years later I’ve come full circle and now working with an incredible business whose mission is to help more people make this transition.
Zero Waste & eco-friendly living
The Clean Collective is the business baby of mindful mum Georgia Lawson
“I daydreamed about having more guidance, certainty and an online resource I could rely on for all my purchases. Someone to read labels for me so I could spend more time reading stories to my son. That’s the role of The Clean Collective.”
and eco geek Charlie Thompson
“The Clean Collective was born of a desire to not only help other people be well, but to create an organisation that empowers people to influence more sustainable practices for a cleaner and greener future.”
It’s so much more than an online store.
The Clean Collective is a space to help you feel empowered about your choice to live more sustainably, through replacing the products you use to sharing practical tips on their blog helping you to live a little greener. They take the overwhelm out of making these positive lifestyle changes and educate at the same time.
I really love the War on Waste section of the site. Back in 2014 when I started buying reusables such as coffee cups and bags, I struggled to find stores that stocked everything, and had to scour the internet to find what I needed. On The Clean Collective, you can find everything you need to help you go zero waste and plastic free with one click.
Giving back
The Clean Collective have also partnered with Take 3 For The Sea to help remove 3 million pieces of plastic from the environment in the next three years. Customers have the option to donate $1 to Take 3 during checkout.
“Take 3 estimates that with every $10 they receive in donations, they can either remove 30 pieces of rubbish through their campaigns or educate 3 kids through their school programs.”
My picks
I had a hard time choosing during my last shop. There are so many amazing products! I decided to be practical and stock up on cleaning supplies plus a little treat.
- ONYA produce bags – a little gift for our bookkeeper (and aunty!) who is awesomely going plastic free
- Koala Eco kitchen spray – it smells AH-mazing and keeps my ant prone benches clear
- Abode laundry powder – my regular powder is scent free so I’ve been on the hunt for a detergent to make my clothes smell pretty – and it does!
- Pana chocolate – a delicious little treat for when the cleaning is done!
