Clean Up Australia Day is back on Sunday, 1 March 2026, inviting communities across the country to roll up their sleeves and take care of the places we live, work and play.
Now in its 35th year, the event began as a local initiative and has since grown into Australia’s largest community-based environmental action, coordinated by Clean Up Australia. Over that time, an incredible 23 million volunteers have taken part, contributing millions of hours to removing litter from beaches, bushland, waterways and our suburbs.
How to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day
Anyone can take part, either by registering a cleanup or joining one that’s already planned. If you’re going at it alone, here’s a list of litter hotspots to tackle in your local area.
You can register as:
- An individual or community for a local clean-up or join an existing one. Online registration helps site organisers plan and ensures you get notifications if plans change.
- Schools can register to receive a free Clean Up kit and run an educational, hands-on activity for students ahead of Clean Up Day.
- Businesses can register; it’s a great way to get the office involved in a team clean-up. There’s a small registration fee for business events, which helps fund free kits for community groups and schools.
Prefer to join an existing clean-up?
If you don’t want to organise your own event, you can search the Clean Up Australia map to find a registered clean-up near you and take part locally.
Clean Up Kits are delivered to organisers, so Clean Up Australia recommends allowing at least 10 working days between registering and your event.
Clean Up Australia Day is held on the first Sunday in March each year, but clean-ups can happen at any time. Registration for 2026 is now open via the Clean Up Australia website.
